Three essential things to do the month before you move
If you have only a month before you need to pull up the moving truck, you may have so many things on your to-do list that you don't know quite what is most important. It can be a hectic time, and when there is so much of a time crunch it is important to prioritize. Taking this into consideration, today we are going over three essential things to do in the month before you move.
Change of address forms Contrary to popular belief you don't need to wait until the last minute to fill this out. The change of address form can be picked up at any local post office and will forward your mail starting on the date you indicate. In addition, changing your address with such important businesses as your bank, lenders, insurance companies and any subscriptions will ensure that your relationship with them is not disrupted by the move.
Make a travel plan While the closest distance between two points is a straight line, a move is rarely that simple. You will have a lot of logistical plans to map out, including what route moving vans will drive and any rest stops that should be planned and budgeted for based on distance. A good moving plan doesn't just plan for everything going off without a hitch but also makes allowances for unexpected delays, unanticipated costs, and backup plans for when everything goes wrong.
Get organized Packing isn't the only thing you should be doing. You also need to make a plan for things such as documentation that you will need to have on hand or at least accessible during transport. This could include your former lease, legal documents related to moving into your new residence, or proof of your new residence. Additionally, some equipment or property you want to take with you - such as satellite dishes or security systems - may require installation or disassemble in order to effectively transport.
